Hello! Welcome to my site! I am very excited to be offering 'Stirrin' Up Some Love, Cooking Classes for Kids to Adults!' These classes offer healthy food choices, combined with kitchen safety, ingredient substitutions to make your meals and snacks healthier, fun activities and even some active games to encourage fitness!
My background includes a degree in Elementary Education from the University of Iowa. I have worked for many years in the field of early childhood education, from teaching to working as the Director of a child care program. My love for educating children has kept me in this field my whole life. I am very excited about teaching classes under the auspices of Healthy Hands Cooking to share my passion for good health!
Throughout my life I have had an interest in living a healthy lifestyle. I am a strong advocate for staying active, eating a healthy diet, and exercising your brain as well! My hobbies and pastimes include hitting the gym, swimming, long walks in the park, cooking, reading, antiquing, and spending time my family. My recent move to Tennessee has proven to be a great choice! Tennessee is a beautiful state with hills, mountins, warmer weather than what I left behind in Iowa and Kansas, and lots of friendly people. Not to mention all the outstanding antique shops and historical sites!
My family includes three grown children, and four grandkids! I love the energy the grandkids have, and feel blessed by the accomplishments of my three grown kids, and the great parents they have become. Fitness has become a family tradiition, my daughters are marathon runners and one is a fitness instructor, and my son is also a runner and weight lifter. We enjoyed many cooking adventures together as they were growing up, and still have fun collaborating on a family meal.
Preparing family meals is a wonderful way for parents and children to bond. With our hectic lifestyles, this provides some quality family time. Even doing the dishes together can be a fun family activity. Children can learn so much from cooking- basic Math and Reading skills, following directions, the feeling of accomplishment for tasks completed and a job well done, as well as personal pride and satisfaction!
Incorporating healthy choices into your daily lives will help your family to stay healthy and decrease your chances for developing heart disease, diabetes, and obesity. What a great gift to give to yourself and your family!
I am offering classes for children ages 3 to 13, including one and two hour classes, camps, and workshops. In the works are classes for child care providers to learn healthy food activitiy ideas to use with the children in their center. I also offer heart healthy and live strong classes for seniors. My class list is just starting as I am just starting, so please check back frequently! If you wish to schedule a class that you do not see listed, please give me a shout out!
